Different cultures often give different spiritual meanings to their tattoo designs. For instance, the tree tattoo in some culture could be divinity or high status in society. The meaning of the tree tattoo is often linked to the mythical tree of life, a common element in many mythologies and one which is said to grant eternal youth and power. According to ancient beliefs, anybody who drinks the sap of the tree of life will live forever and will reign supreme. Even in our modern times, there are still a lot of people who believe in the legend of the tree of life. Of course there is no evidence of truth to this story but a lot of people believed in it, thus tree tattoos were quite popular even until now. Since the tree tattoo is considered as sacred in many cultures, only those people of noble birth were allowed to wear the tree tattoo in the ancient times. Slaves and those of lower ranks were forbidden to paint their bodies with the tree tattoo, an offence that could have been punished by death!! But, modern bearers of the tree tattoo have no such worries. The only consideration to be taken into account is the size, location of type of tree tattoo to be inked.

Since the dawn of time trees have had symbolic meaning. It’s true in every culture on the planet. And that is why tree tattoos are starting to become popular. Tree symbols and forests contains multiple mythic qualities. The deep-rooted symbolism of trees is apparent in common metaphors such as the Tree of Life and our ancestral heritage depicted in family trees. In Vedic philosophy, the symbolism of wood claims this element as the primal material of the universe. Christian art symbolism depicts Christ as the cosmic carpenter and His ultimate sacrifice is represented by the symbolism of a wooden cross. The Jewish depiction of the Kabbalah is in the form of a modified tree and explains the mystical teachings of Judaism. Specific tree tattoos also have their own meaning depending on the type of tree represented. For example the tree depicted in the picture is an Ash tree. This tree tattoo symbolizes sacrifice, sensitivity and higher awareness. Ash is the timber of choice for production of baseball bats and tool handles. The wood is also favorable for furniture and flooring. Ash is a large deciduous tree with smooth, gray bark on young trees which becomes fissured with age. And if shown in your design devoid of it’s foliage like in the picture then it makes a stunning impact visually.
